The Autocollants only existed for a few years during the glorious heyday of '90s US indiepop, and though they only released a couple 7"s and handful of compilation tracks in their time (most of which were collected on the posthumously-released "Why Couldn't Things Just Stay The Same?" cd), their true significance to both myself and the Jigsaw label was my friendship with guitarist Ed Mazzucco. Not long after I started the label, I also launched a small mailorder, which is how I first met Ed (and his new label, Shelflife Records), and we called/corresponded/traded tapes regularly for years afterward. So it's incredibly fitting that on the 30th anniversary of the Jigsaw label (est. May '95!), we're releasing a special collection of early demos & rarities from the super-sweet twee-pop band he shared with Dwayne Palasek, Tim Morris and Laura Watling (who's actually already been on the Jigsaw label, via her other '90s twee-pop project, Casino Ashtrays on PZL015)! Some of these fifteen songs were taken from compilations and the impossibly rare "Gas Money" tour tape and even rarer "Davenport ep" (which the band themselves had forgotten about!), but more than half of them have never been released before! And with covers of the Cat's Miaow, Marine Girls and the Orchids, I think you should have a pretty good idea of where they were coming from... so let's join them again!
