Playing at the shop!

Shows here at My Vinyl Underground are infrequent (typically 2-5 a month) but always fun - I mean, who doesn't love a classic basement DIY show? Typical shows are "doors at 7 / music at 8", but all that means is we don't close at 6 like usual, and if we simply said the show started at 8, folks would assume the music started later and accidentally miss the first band! Also, every show we host is ALL AGES, as all shows ought to be!

If you're interested in booking a show here, just email us at myvinylunderground@gmail.com with your details (bandcamp links/date/etc) and we'll get back to you soon-ish (the comic shop sometimes has their own events, so we have to make sure the date doesn't conflict). We prefer to be offered a complete 3-4 band bill, but can help fill out the bill, if needed. Oh, and since we're closed on Mondays/Tuesdays, those days are obviously not available for shows...

Details for bands playing the shop:

  • We've got an amazing vintage Shure PA, as well as 3 mics & stands. However, since the PA is older, it only has ¼" inputs, so please keep that in mind if you need to plug in a laptop or anything like that. We don't have any cables or adapters, sorry.
  • We've got a drum rug, so no worries there.
  • We don't take any money from the door and ALL of it goes to the bands, therefore I let them decide what the cost of the show should be.
  • We also let the bands decide the order in which they play, although everyone loves a good "touring band sandwich".
  • The capacity down here is about 60-70 people - we've had more on a couple occasions, but it starts getting pretty warm after the first 50 people, ha ha!
  • The three large record shelves in the middle of the room are all on wheels, but I typically wait until about 7:45 to move them & turn out the lights to transition from a record shop to a venue. That said, it can get a bit cluttered with all the assorted gear, but seeing as we don't take any money from the door, we gotta try to sell some records, eh?
  • Speaking of gear, we HIGHLY encourage bands to gear-share as much as possible, please - particularly drums & amps!
  • We sell waters & sodas, but not alcohol since the shows are all ages. It's okay to bring your own, but just, you know, don't give it to a kid or anything stupid like that...
  • We handle the door/money down here in the shop, but seeing as we're in the basement of the Books With Pictures shop - who close at 7 - we MUST have someone(s) hanging out upstairs from 7 until the end, to make sure no one walks out with an armful of comics or anything. With a 3-4 band bill, there are usually enough folks who can take turns doing the easiest security job ever...
